Stainless Steel Grease Traps

Stainless steel grease traps are typically manual grease traps, also known as passive grease traps or fat traps and are commonly used in commercial kitchens. Like all passive grease traps, stainless steel grease traps rely on gravity to separate FOGs (fats, oils, and greases) from wastewater. As wastewater enters the manual grease trap, the water and FOG cool until the clear water, along with any solid debris, sinks to bottom, the water flowing out to a separate area and eventually the sewer system while the FOG solidifies forming a layer on the top of the water in the main cavity. This separation process prevents FOGs from entering the sewer system where they can cause blockages and other problems.

Cleaning manual fat traps isn't a pleasant experience and entails strict procedures that must be followed, from setting up the cleaning area, emptying the solids from the bottom of the trap, skimming the FOG from the top of the water, disinfecting the entire area after cleaning and correct disposal.

To clean any fat trap, contents can only be accessed via removing the lid. This means that the bacteria and pathogens naturally present in the wastewater and FOG are released into the surrounding atmosphere. We always recommend using a specialist cleaning team so that rules and protocols are adhered to in line with legislation. This includes wearing the correct kit to protect against exposure to bacteria during the fat trap cleaning process, shutting down and vacating the kitchen prior to cleaning taking place and a deep clean of the entire area once cleaning and maintenance has been carried out. By using a specialist company to clean your fat trap you are also assured that all FOG will be disposed of lawfully and responsibly and all mandatory paperwork is filled out correctly.

Stainless steel is often used to make manual grease traps because it is durable and resistant to corrosion. Additionally, stainless steel is easy to clean and maintain, making it an ideal material for use in a commercial kitchen. While manual grease traps require regular maintenance, they offer an effective, low cost way to keep your drains flowing smoothly and prevent costly clogs and fatbergs.
